It was one of those afternoons that drifts by unnoticed — ordinary, unremarkable. I was tired, distracted, just trying to finish a quick grocery run. I filled my cart, scanned my items at self-checkout, and gathered my bags without much thought. As I turned to go, a woman behind me offered a polite smile and said, “Excuse me, you forgot your receipt.” I thanked her, tucked it into a bag, and walked out — unaware that piece of paper would end up changing my day.
Later that evening, while unpacking groceries, I grabbed the receipt to toss it away. That’s when I noticed something odd — handwriting on the back. The letters were quick, uneven, hurried: “Check your back seat.”
