I THOUGHT THEY WERE JUST CURIOUS DEER—UNTIL I SAW WHAT THE LITTLE ONE WAS CARRYING

Confused, I stood up, holding the locket tightly in my hand. I thought about what to do next. Should I try to follow them? Should I go inside and forget this strange encounter? But something in me, something primal, told me to pay attention. I couldn’t explain it, but the idea of simply walking away didn’t feel right.

I called out, “Hey, are you… are you trying to tell me something?”

The little one blinked at me, then turned its head toward the treeline, as if urging me to follow. My heart raced as I realized that the deer seemed to want me to come with them.

I glanced down at the locket once more. There was no name, no initials. Just the carvings. I had no idea what it all meant, but I felt a deep curiosity tugging at me. Maybe this wasn’t just a strange encounter. Maybe it was the beginning of something more.
